So you want to become an artist? That’s a question Shantell Martin has faced her entire life. In this four-part series, Martin offers an intimate portrait of her world, revealing how a queer, mixed-race girl from a South East London council estate evolved into one of the most exciting, global artists of our time.
Through a blend of original artwork, rarely seen archival footage, and in-depth interviews, each episode explores a formative stop in her globe-spanning journey: from an artist reckoning with tough childhood to a visual jockey in Tokyo’s night clubs to an acclaimed New York artist.
